Lu de Souza


Lu de Souza, MD, is a vice president and the CMO for Cerner’s Physician Relationships Organization. Her team is responsible for leading clients into the next phase of their EHR journey, with focus on improving care delivery and clinical outcomes, and with better usability and efficiency. She’s passionate about advancing healthcare information systems and innovations, especially in the pediatric space, and applying learning from different healthcare systems around the globe.

De Souza joined Cerner in 2011, holding various leadership positions prior to becoming CMO of Cerner’s largest physician division. She was a pediatric ED medical director and held teaching positions as associate professor of pediatrics at South University and at Florida State University. And at Cerner, she continues to facilitate workshops with focus on physician leadership skills development and clinician burnout.

Prior to joining Cerner, de Souza practiced pediatric emergency medicine at Lakeland Regional Medical Center and Brandon Regional Hospital, and pediatric hospital medicine at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Medical College of Virginia Hospital Systems. She was an HIT physician champion, with more than 10 years of end-user experience with various EHRs, as well as extensive experience in clinical design, implementation and adoption.

De Souza earned her bachelor’s degree in molecular genetics from The Ohio State University, her medical degree from Wright State University, and completed a pediatric residency at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she also served as pediatric chief resident.

In addition to her Cerner responsibilities, de Souza continues to practice pediatric urgent care part-time at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
