Rohit Rao


Dr. Rohit Rao, a board-certified pediatric cardiologist and intensivist, is the medical director of the Cardiothoracic ICU, the Pulmonary Hypertension Program and Project ADAM at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego. He is also a clinical professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Dr. Rao specializes in pediatric cardiac critical care and treats patients in the cardiovascular intensive care unit. He also specializes in pulmonary hypertension and cares for children with this condition in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. His research interests include application and innovation of microcirculatory non-invasive monitoring for children with critical illness.

After earning his medical degree at Grant Medical College, Bombay, India, Dr. Rao completed his pediatric residency at University of Illinois at Chicago. Subsequently, he completed dual-fellowship training in pediatric cardiology and pediatric critical care medicine at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Rao earned his M.B.A. from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona in 2015. Prior to coming to Rady Children’s in 2017, he was on the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin from July 2008 to June 2011, then joined the Heart Center at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
